James Swash returns to Ruston as an assistant coach for the Louisiana Tech Golf program.
Swash spent five seasons (2018-23) as a Bulldog and most recently spent time on the PGA Tour Canada circuit.
In 2022-23, he became just the third LA Tech golfer in program history to qualify for NCAA Regionals. He would go on to finish tied for 21st at the NCAA Norman Regional, shooting -4 (72-71-69=212) for the second highest finish ever by a Bulldog at an NCAA Regional.
He received an automatic bid to the NCAA after becoming the Conference USA Individual Champion, coming back from three strokes down to shoot a championship-best 68 (-4) in the third round and win by two strokes. In doing so, he became the first individual champion at LA Tech since 1980).
As a fifth-year senior, he was named First Team All-Conference USA, CUSA All-Tournament Team, and Second Team All-Louisiana. He finished the year with a career-best stroke average of 73.03 over 33 rounds, totaling a team-best 93 birdies.
His career at LA Tech began in 2018-19 when he became just the second Bulldog to ever be named league Freshman of the Year. He competed in 11 events as a true freshman, registering a 73.45 scoring average which was the lowest ever by a Bulldog freshman.
Swash was a three-time GCAA All-American Scholar, five-time CUSA Commissioner's Honor Roll recipient. He was also named CoSIDA Academic All-District in 2021 and was a member of the CUSA All-Academic Team in 2023.
